Aberaeron shop owner Karen Geobey received a surprise visit from the local Guide Dogs group when she closed her doors for the final time.

Parsley & Thyme closed on 12 September but prior to that Karen found innovative ways to raise money for Guide Dogs, including selling unwanted Dr Martens shoes and boots of her own and from customers, and making and selling scented candle “melts” from leftover wax.

Karen raised £10,000 for Guide Dogs, enabling her to name puppies Tony and Joan, in memory of her mother and father who were Guide Dogs puppy raisers, and Totxi, a nod to the nickname of her late cousin, Jonathan. A fourth will be named June.

Guide Dogs Cymru community fundraising manager Ruth Evans said: “We’re grateful to Karen for her support over the years and wish her well as the business continues online. Guide Dogs relies on donations to help us continue our life-changing work, so it’s great when people find innovative ways to support us.”
