The front door of an Aberystwyth-based business has been kicked in and charity boxes stolen overnight.

Rattray Butchers on Chalybeate Street was targeted by thieves on Saturday.

The owners said this was “not quite the Bank Holiday weekend we had planned!”, and posted pictures of their damaged front door on Facebook.

“Unfortunately, our door was kicked in on Saturday night and the property was broken into,” they added.

“Three charity boxes were stolen, but thankfully there was no further damage and nothing else was taken.

“We have full CCTV footage of the incident and would like to thank Dyfed-Powys Police for their quick response and support. They were on the scene within minutes. Diolch.

“A massive thank you to Tommy Sandford who left the Big Trib on Saturday night to secure the property, and to Tommy and Austin Ellis-Jones for giving up their Bank Holiday to fit a temporary door for us. We can’t thank you both enough — diolch bois!

“Thanks to everyone who has helped us – Aber Heating Engineers Ltd, Austin Ellis-Jones Carpentry, CCW Solutions Ltd (CCTV) and Dyfed-Powys Police. We really appreciate it.”

Town centre shops have reported similar incidents in recent weeks.

On 19 August, Carys’s Angolino posted the following on Facebook: “To our valued customers. You’ll notice our door is currently boarded up – unfortunately, someone tried to break in recently.

“Please rest assured that everything is fine. The door is being repaired and we are fully open as usual.”

Vintage Vibes in Aberystwyth lost £130’s worth of clothing to a shoplifter in July.

They took to social media to describe the items taken and their value, offering the shoplifter the chance to return the items before CCTV footage of them being taken was shared.

The shop said the woman did return the items and has now been banned.
