Aberystwyth has been named the second least romantic place in the UK.
As part of a national survey, 69 per cent of Aberystwyth residents interviewed classed their partner as “not romantic".
The city of Coventry pipped lovelorn Aberystwyth to the top taking the mantle of the UK’s most unromantic city.
While Oxford is seemingly the place where residents feel the most love from their other halves.
Researchers who polled 2,000 UK adults in relationships identified that more than two thirds (70 per cent) of Brits say they would like to see more romance in their relationship.
As couples today don’t make date night a priority, with a quarter stating they never have regular dates – one in 10 admitted they couldn’t even remember the last time they went on one.
Commissioned by pizza brand Dr Oetker Ristorante to coincide with its national partnership with Channel 4’s First Dates, the research also identified the top five biggest distractions for couples, with watching TV and films coming out on top, while chores and housework came in a close second.
Josephine Skinner of Dr Oetker Ristorante said: “It’s a startling reality of today’s society that busy work lives were cited as the biggest obstacle to romance in people’s relationships (37 per cent) – though money is also a considerable factor (29 per cent), meaning that more and more people are struggling to find time for date nights (67 per cent).
"This is despite the vast majority (70 per cent) saying they feel date nights are important to a relationship.
“We share this feeling and it’s for this very reason that we partnered with First Dates, and are offering our customers the chance to win their very own dream date night. The perfect opportunity to rekindle the romance in their relationship.”
When asked what their dream date would be, it was a romantic getaway that topped the chart, with just spending time together taking second spot, closely followed by a meal at a fine dining restaurant. Yet fun activities like bowling, going to the theatre, attending a gig together and a romantic picnic for two were also contenders for the perfect date night.
When it came to why people enjoyed date nights, over half said they just enjoyed spending time with their partner and getting some alone time. Keeping the spark alive and destressing/getting time out together also noted as being particularly important.
Carried out through OnePoll.com, the research also found over a third (36 per cent) felt they didn’t spend enough quality time together with their partner.
The 10 most unromantic cities and towns in the UK, per the survey, are Coventry, Aberystwyth, Cardiff, York, Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Plymouth, Norwich, Chelmsford and Portsmouth.
And the 10 most romantic places are Oxford, Cambridge, Wrexham, Gloucester, Worcester, Liverpool, Bristol, Newcastle, London and Leeds.
