Women in the Lampeter area who were born in the 1950s will get help to make a formal complaint about the lack of notice they received about the loss of up to six years of their state pension.

Campaigners say approximately 5,000 women in Ceredigion have lost up to £45,000 each due to the Pension Acts of 1995 and 2011.

They claim many did not receive official notice of these changes at all. For those who did, it came only a short time before they expected to retire at 60.

Members of Ceredigion WASPI and a member of MP Ben Lake’s team will be on hand at a drop-in advice session at Lampeter Library from 2.30pm to 4.30pm on Wednesday, 29 May.

Judy Jungmayr, from Tanygroes, went to a WASPI advice session in Cardigan where 20 women registered complaints.

“As well as getting help to write my complaint I found out about all the WASPI activities that I can join," she said.

"You can feel very isolated when you get the bad news that the pension you have been expecting to get at 60 isn’t there. It was really good to meet other women in the same boat."

WASPI advice sessions are also planned for 26 June in Aberystwyth Library and 10 July at Whilen y Porthmyn in Tregaron, both from 2.30pm to 4.30pm.
