An Aberystwyth woman is gearing up to take on the Sydney Marathon to raise money in her grandmother’s memory.

Alice Kemish, 25, is currently travelling and working in Australia and has signed up for the Sydney Marathon to raise money for Bronglais Hospital’s chemotherapy unit, which treated her grandmother Babs who sadly passed away last year.

Alice had travelled back from Australia to be with her grandmother before she passed away, and decided to raise money for the unit after seeing the treatment provided to her grandmother.

She has been training since then, but was slightly hampered by an injury, but Alice said she is now back on track.

Alice said: “Training has definitely had its highs and lows, and has allowed me to explore different parts of Melbourne.

“It seemed things were a little against me after an injury, but all back on track now.

“I’m determined to complete the marathon for my wonderful Nan.”

Alice, who will run the marathon on 15 September, had initially set a fundraising target of £500, but has already exceeded that.

She said: “A huge thank you to everyone for their sponsorship, it really means a lot to me.”
