Madam,
There is a new chapter about to begin in the story of Welsh railway operators when, in October 2018, the new train operator KeolisAmey takes over from Arriva Trains Wales.
KeolisAmey will run the Welsh railways for 15 years. I hope that this new company will look at reopening the Carmarthen to Aberystwyth railway. I don’t know what Lord Beeching was thinking when he stopped the Carmarthen to Aberystwyth railway line in his famous cuts.
Wales needs the train from Aberystwyth to Carmarthen as a vital public transport service so people can travel around the country.
It’s all change in Wales with a new First Minister coming in 2018, and the new rail company KeolisAmey starting up in October 2018.
I hope that this year of change will see a determined effort from the new First Minister of Wales to engage with the new train company and that all parties work towards reopening the Carmarthen to Aberystwyth railway.
Yours etc,
Jamie Davies, Maes y Felin, Lampeter.
