FUNDRAISERS in mid Wales have rallied around and collected an impressive four-figure sum for Wales Air Ambulance.
Last weekend Bala and District Motor Club handed over a cheque for Wales Air Ambulance worth £5,000, collected following the last two Gareth Hall Memorial Rallies, held in the Trawsfynydd ranges.
One of the key players in the fundraising initiative was Machynlleth-based rally preparation firm Geoff Jones Motorsport, who for the past three years have run an auction for the right to sit alongside the former works rally driver and company owner, Geoff Jones, in the rally.
This year’s auction winner, Kylie Evans, bid an amazing £920 for the ride and, despite a scare with a loss of brakes, came home to ninth overall and collected third in class in a Subaru Impreza.
Geoff said: “We’ve worked with Bala Motor Club to help raise money for a very worthy cause.
“The Air Ambulance is an essential service not just for the public but for motorsport and relies on charity donations.”
Despite the loss of brakes, Geoff had an enjoyable day and added: “I’d also like to thank my personal supporters, BGMSport, DirtFish Rally and Jordan Road Surfacing who, along with other individual donations and the auction, took our contribution to over £2,000, before adding in the spectator car park and last year’s totals.”
