RUSSELL George, Conservative AM has stepped into the row over uncut grass in Machynlleth after he received “dozens” of complaints from across Montgomeryshire.
The intervention comes after it emerged that bereaved relatives were having to cut the grass in Machynlleth cemetery themselves and after concerns that the grass in other areas in the town had not been cut at all this year.
Workmen were seen in Machynlleth cutting grass on Friday, but Mr George, launched a stinging attack last week on Powys County Council, labelling the situation “unacceptable” and “dangerous”, and calling for a “complete overhaul” of the council’s contract with the private firm the council has outsourced landscaping work to.
Mr George said: “After having received dozens of complaints from residents, I have taken up the issue with the responsible Cabinet member at Powys County Council to seek answers as to why the situation has been allowed to get so bad before action is taken.
