Madam,
I took part in an organised litter-pick at Tan-y-bwlch on Saturday, 7 January, and was disgusted by the amount of dog mess there was along the path above the beach.
I was concentrating on removing rubbish from the right side of the path that leads south, where there is a small strip of vegetation. The amount of dog mess – some loose and some in dumped bags, could have filled a few buckets!
It was disgusting. This is a Local Nature Reserve, not a place to be used as a dog toilet.
I walk my own dog along that path on occasions and have noticed that some dog walkers just open their car doors and let their dogs loose, not noticing where they go or what they do.
Also there are sometimes people busy talking and not watching their dog. I have noticed that there is always a lot of dog mess within a hundred yards or so of a rural car park.
One person I spoke to said that there were no dog-mess bins in the car park at Tanybwlch. But there is one, although it is on the bridge. Maybe the council could move it to the barrier where it would be more noticeable and where more people would pass it.
There is also a lot of dog mess through the castle grounds and gardens, where placing a dog bin, or bins would be beneficial.
Before long I can see some areas being closed to dog walkers for longer periods than just the summer season, or closed to dogs altogether.
Most dog owners are responsible people, but there are some who do not care about children playing where a dog has just messed, where a mother is pushing a pram or pushchair, or a disabled person is using a wheelchair.
Allowing a dog to mess in public places is not acceptable and should be stamped out.
Yours etc,
Red Liford, Cwmystwyth.
