Madam,

It is now time for Aberystwyth Borough to return to support the needs of Aberystwyth.

It is obvious that Ceredigion County Council has had an agenda, to close Bodlondeb care home, as they did with the Deva and Park Avenue Day Centre.

During the last 18 years we have witnessed three consultations, and now possibly four, with Bodlondeb’s future still unknown.

We have heard from each enquiry why we should close Bodlondeb, but we have not heard from Ceredigion Council why and how we should provide residential care in the most populated area in Ceredigion.

They said the rooms were too small, but did the measurements include the fitted sink unit and wardrobe which have been replaced with standing sink unit and wardrobe?

One of the boilers had to be replaced because it did not work, yet every other week when switched on by myself, they worked!

They said that there was flooding going down to the houses in Rhyd-y-Bont, Penparcau, but I have no recollections of flooding taking place in my 17 years as handy person at the home!

Bodlondeb Care home is as important to Aberystwyth borough as are the ambulance station, fire station and the police station. Also as important as Bronglais Hospital, the National Library of Wales and the RNLI station.

I would assume that Bodlondeb has been home to in excess of 1,000 residents over 60 years, including adults with learning disabilities and dementia sufferers.

In all previous consultations there has been outrage and disbelief from residents’ families, members of staff and friends.

Their voices must be heard, must be listened to, this time.

I request that all residents in the catchment area of Bodlondeb receive a consultation pack, which they did not have in 2015.

I requested one for every house in Penparcau and Southgate only to receive flyers to attend Neuadd Goffa one afternoon.

We in Penparcau and Southgate were treated with contempt and disrespect, as has everybody who wants Bodlondeb to remain as it always was.

Yours etc,

D A Thomas, Llwyn-yr-Eos, Southgate, Penparcau, Aberystwyth.
