RESIDENTS are up in arms after a children’s playground on a housing estate was closed without any warning just as the school summer holidays began.
Parents of young children on the Cae Ceredig estate next to the Parc-y-llyn Retail Park said they were left “angered” after the gates to the playground were locked and a notice put up saying it was closed just before school children were let out for the holidays.
Residents have warned that children, left with nowhere to play, are playing on the roads around the estate or climbing over the fence to play in the playground - leaving them at risk.
One resident, who said she was organising a petition against the closure, told the Cambrian News that residents were “very unhappy” and were demanding answers.
The mother-of-two, who did not want to be named, said: “It is absolutely unacceptable that this playground has been closed for the summer holidays.
“We weren’t told it would be closed and still can’t get answers as to why it was closed.
“We assume it is somehow unsafe, but children are still climbing the fence to play in it – it is impossible to stop them.
“It is such a big health and safety risk. We now have children playing in the roads instead.”
