Concerns have been raised in Barmouth following the vandalism of palm trees by the town’s beach.

Two separate incidents of vandalism to the trees were reported to Barmouth Town Council in the space of a week.

Large branches have been ripped from them, according to reports.

Photos showing the branches in the sand on the beach were shared in a social media group, leading to an angry reaction from people

Cllr Damian Williams, who is on the town council, described those responsible as “mindless” and was saddened by the incidents.

He said: “We are saddened that some mindless people have vandalised some palm trees along the promenade on two separate occasions in the space of a week.

Cllr Williams added: “Barmouth Town Council, BRIG Barmouth Resort Improvement Group and other groups do their best and put a lot of work into the town to try and make it a nice place for everyone to enjoy it’s really annoying that someone could do this.”

North Wales Police were called in relation to the most recent incident of vandalism.
