ANGRY motorists are demanding to know why traffic lights on the A44 between Aberystwyth and Llangurig are still there two years after they were installed.
The lights at Pantmawr, approximately four miles west of Llangurig, have been more permanent than temporary, after they were put in operation for safety reasons following damage to a vehicle restraint barrier in November 2013.
Last Monday morning, commuters were subjected to delays after a fault with the long-standing lights caused both ends to show red.
Montgomeryshire AM Russell George said he was “extremely disappointed” that repair works to the road and restraint barrier had not yet been carried out and called on the Welsh Government to complete the works “as a priority”.
He said: “I am extremely disappointed that works have still not begun.
“The works should take place as a priority for the safety of those travelling and using this main route.
“I am currently awaiting a further update from the minister [for economy, science and transport, Edwina Hart AM] and I have again urged the minister to carry out the works urgently."
