A GENEROUS Machynlleth couple has been thanked after making an anonymous donation of £500 towards the replacement of the town’s only playground.
It was reported in the Cambrian News last month that an art auction was to be held in order to raise money for the development of a new playground accessible to “all children of all abilities” after the playground at Y Plas was labelled “not fit for purpose”.
And Danielle Armstrong, secretary of Future Play Machynlleth, the group which is raising money for the playground, said she wanted to thank local people for helping raise more than £1,000.
Mrs Armstrong said she was particularly grateful to a local couple who, on the condition of anonymity, handed over a cheque for £500 towards the playground after reading the story in the Cambrian News.
Mrs Armstrong, whose seven-year-old son William suffers with a rare syndrome which limits his ability to walk unaided, said: “I tried to persuade them to make their donation public but they don’t want to reveal themselves.
“They said they read about the art auction in the Cambrian News and felt they really wanted to donate."
If anybody wishes to help with the project, either volunteering, fund-raising, or donating they can e-mail: [email protected] or go to the Facebook page: www.facebook.com/groups/futureplaymachynlleth.
