WORK to resurface a roundabout near Dolgellau is under way - just weeks after the project was originally completed.

Transport minister, Ken Skates AM, has apologised to council leader, Dyfed Edwards, for the disruption but stated that tests had shown that some of the surfacing material at the roundabout “did not comply with requirements”.

The roundabout on the A470/A494 junction was installed after a long campaign by local politicians and community actions groups for new traffic calming measures following the deaths of two motorists in recent years.

Work resurfacing the accident blackspot started on Monday and will last for five days, during which time a three-way traffic control and convoy will be in place.

The Welsh Government does not foresee “any significant traffic disruption” and will also be carrying out other routine maintenance work at the same time, to make “best use” of the traffic management arrangements.

The costs of the remedial work will be met by contractors, the minister confirmed.
