A PHOTOGRAPH taken from the archives of the Cambrian News has attracted some attention.
We asked if anyone had any information about this image (seen right), which had the following caption written on the back: ‘Sir Peter Hutchinson, chairman of the Forestry Commission, with Cllr John Tudor and Arthur Miller, signing an agreement to increase native woodland in Snowdonia’.
We wanted to know when the picture taken.
Arthur Miller himself, who lives in Connah’s Quay in Flintshire, has the answer.
He writes: “A copy of your Timewatch page has been forwarded to me.
“It refers to the photograph of the signing of the agreement between the Forestry Commission and Snowdonia National Park.
“The event took place during the summer of 1996 at Llyn Mair, near Tan-y-Bwlch.
“It was part of an initiative to encourage the good management and extension of native woodlands in the national park.
“The Concordat, as it was called, was an agreement between the Forestry Commission and the Park to work together in that common aim.
“At the time both authorities were working closely together in terms of Forest policy, local consultation and encouragement to owners by means of Felling Licences and Woodland grant schemes.
“It was clear that good management of native woodlands in the Park, as well as Wales in general, was essential, not only for aesthetic and landscape reasons, but also to preserve the diversity of flora and fauna that naturally follow such actions."
