THE Armed Forces Champion for Ceredigion County Council has been nominated as a finalist for the Armed Forces in Wales Awards 2017.
Awards will be presented to people from across Wales in the four award categories of Sports, Youth and Cadet, Covenant and the overall Armed Forces Award.
The awards recognise those who have provided the most outstanding contribution in those categories.
Cllr Paul Hinge is a finalist for the Covenant category which recognises those who have played a key role in supporting and delivering the ethos of the Armed Forces Covenant and who aim to achieve mutual understanding between the Armed Forces and the community within which they live and serve.
Cllr Hinge said: “I was flabbergasted to hear that I’d been shortlisted for this award and pleasantly shocked that I had been nominated for work I feel is my duty not only as a councillor but as a veteran myself to undertake on behalf of Service men and women, veterans and their dependants.
“I know it’s a cliché but this nomination would not be there if it wasn’t for the team of officers behind me coupled with the Armed Forces Community Covenant (AFCC) members who all work so hard to make Ceredigion’s Community Covenant work.
“I’m humbled by my nomination and so pleased that the work we carry out here in Ceredigion has been recognised.”
