ARTIST Mary Lloyd Jones, has been chosen to lead Aberystwyth’s 2016 St David’s Day Parade.
The honour of ‘Tywysydd’ (guide) is given to a local Aberystwyth person or persons for their commitment and dedication to Wales and the Welsh language and life.
Mary was born and raised Devil’s Bridge. She trained at Cardiff School of Art and has exhibited her work consistently since 1966 and has been a full time artists since 1989.
Her work is in several public collections, including the House of Lords, the Smithsonian Collection in Washington DC, BBC Cymru Wales, National Museum of Wales, Crawford Museum and Gallery, the Cord in Ireland, the World Trade Centre and the V&A Collection in London.
“The strength and diversity of Welsh language culture in Aberystwyth is down to people like Mary Lloyd Jones,” said Siôn Jobbins, chair of Parêd Gwyl Dewi.
“Mary’s art reflects a wide range of subjects but she hasn’t been afraid to deal with the issues of Welshness.
“She has consistently created art which reflects, defends, challenges and promotes the culture and language which moulded her. In art, the local is very often also the international”.
