AN artist who found an abandoned dog in Porthmadog will donate the profits from her paintings to a local animal charity to give thanks for their work.

Alison Cross, who went to Ysgol y Gorlan and Ysgol Eiffinoydd in Porthmadog and now lives near Beddgelert, found her dog Jac abandoned in the town three years ago.

She received help from Freshfields animal rescue to take him in, and now she wants to give back to the charity for the work it does.

“I’m a new local artist who just has passion for animals and what Freshfields do,” Alison said.

“I’m struggling with material costs as I don’t get any help but I am just trying to make a difference to help the charity.

“Each one I sell I will donate some money to them. It’s not going to be easy but the more artwork out there for sale, the more I can help Freshfields.”

Alison, who has only been painting for two years, added: “I have a passion for animals.

“I found Jac, my dog abandoned, in Porthmadog three years ago.

“Freshfields helped me to rescue him.

“He was the best thing that ever could have happened to me as I was in a bad way with depression when I found him.

“We helped each other, especially through lockdown.

“Freshfields take in any abandoned animal and they’re struggling so much. They’re not government funded either.

“I love animals so much. I would have my house full of them if I could afford it.

“I will never forget what Freshfields did for me with Jac.”

Alison also donated a painting of an elephant to London charity Explorers Against Extinction last year and, along with other artists, helped them to raise £57,000.
