Madam,
I’m astounded at ‘Residents urge council to cut grass and brambles’ in your editions of 22 August, about an area behind Penrheidol Estate, in Penparcau, Aberystwyth.
Why? Why does it need cutting? Nobody uses it, and surely people would rather have wildlife making the use of blackberries and thistles? Both are of major importance. Nettles, too, for cater - pillars. No wonder we have such a decrease in butterflies, moths and other wildlife if their natural habitat, not used by humans, is trashed because of the way it looks! I agree brambles can get out of hand, but it will also be autumn in only a matter of week, so leave the area be until winter makes things more dormant so brambles only can be cut back and tidied among valuable wildlife resources, then your children and grandchildren will maybe have knowledge of what a butterfly, moth or bee looks like for real, rather than in books.
Yours etc, Amanda J Jones, Tregaron
