NEWCASTLE Emlyn’s Attic Players are preparing a very different Christmas production which this year they are pleased to present Stephen Briggs’s adaptation of Terry Pratchett’s Wyrd Sisters.

Wyrd Sisters is set in the small, mountainous kingdom of Lancre on the author’s Discworld, and describes the attempts by a group of three witches to secure the succession to the throne of the legitimate king, or failing that any king they deem suitable.

They are accompanied by a full supporting cast of evil dukes, inept guards, theatre players, knowing fools, demons and other creatures of the not-quite-Shakespearean stage, all guaranteed to stretch one’s imagination and enjoyment.

This particular play has a loose similarity to Macbeth, but is humorously entertaining for the whole family.

This is an amateur production, directed by Ben Allen.

“Although Wyrd Sisters was the sixth novel to be published in the Discworld series, it was the first to be adapted for the stage,” he said.

“Following Sir Terry Pratchett’s death in the spring of this year it occurred to me that an adaptation of a Discworld story could be a potential Christmas production for the Attic Players.

“Wyrd Sisters seemed the ideal choice, and the Attic Players have enjoyed bring this story to life.”

Wyrd Sisters will be performed at the Attic Theatre, Cawdor Hall tonight and tomorrow at 7.30pm, with a matinee on tomorrow at 2.30pm and 16 to 19 December at 7.30pm.

Tickets are available from the Attic Players website, www.atticplayers.org.uk, or in person at Fair and Fabulous in Newcastle Emlyn.
