A Bala Town football player has announced he has been diagnosed with cancer.

Midfielder Daniel Gosset issued the news in a statement which the club has released to fans.

Thanking everyone for the support he has received so far, 24-year-old Daniel said: “In August this year I was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin Lymphoma, a type of blood cancer.

“Since the diagnosis, I have already started treatment at Christie Hospital in Manchester and count myself lucky that I’m able to get the best possible care to overcome this. The support I’ve received since the diagnosis has been incredible and I’m truly grateful to everyone who has been in contact.”

Daniel said he suspected something was wrong during the Europa League play-offs.

“I was suffering from an unusual pain in my left leg,” he said.

“After weeks of rest during the close season, unfortunately, nothing changed.”

The footballer went on to thank Ffiona Evans, the physiotherapist at Bala, for encouraging him to have further tests.

“This encouragement led to the diagnosis,” he said.

Daniel paid tribute to the club, saying “a massive thank you also to everyone at Bala Town, from the manager and players to all the staff for their support over these past few months”.

“I’m proud to be part of this special club and will do everything in my power to be back on the pitch at Maes Tegid as soon as possible,” he added,

Supporters have rallied around Danny, who moved to Bala Town in 2018, flooding social media with messages of support.
