Abergynolwyn lost its electricity supply for three quarters of an hour on Monday afternoon.

The cause was a copper-coloured metallic birthday balloon landing on a power line in the field behind Maes y Meillion.

Residents reported hearing a loud noise and seeing flames as the balloon partly melted on contact.

The balloon carried a small warning label stating that it should not be released outdoors or near overhead power lines.

This incident should alert people to the hazards caused by irresponsible use of these balloons.
