Gwarchod Bermo

FOLLOWING recent damage to cars in Park Road, Gwarchod Bermo has said that more cameras are needed to improve security for residents and businesses in that area. Since there is no statutory funding for the CCTV system, the group needs to seek funding wherever it is available. It is hoped that those who live and work in the Park Road area will appreciate the benefit cameras will bring and be prepared to make some contribution to the cost of installation. The group would like to be able to offer cover of the play area too, but again this is dependant on funds being available. Contact Deanna Fisher if you can offer anything.

Clipboards were circulated for darts, dining out, Te Cymraeg and Scrabble.Alan Vincent was the first guest speaker of the year and his topic was The Rhine Past and Present. Alan’s story started 20 years ago when he and his sister Jean found a journal in a wardrobe, it had belonged to their father Len and was full of written notes, photographs and ephemera from a trip he and his cousin George had taken in 1937. They were two of a party of 10 leader scouts who travelled from Birmingham to Cologne on a hiking holiday. In 2011 Alan and his wife Geraldine went on a Rhine cruise visiting many of the places Len had visited in 1937, and the differences between the two visits were shown on the screen during the talk. In 2014 Alan, Jean and their spouses returned to Germany and replicated one particular photograph that had been taken of Len outside the Old House. Mari O’Rourke thanked Alan for a very interesting talk. The monthly competition (an essential holiday item) was won by Mari O’Rourke, second was Joan Probert and third was Pam Payton. The raffle was won by Iris Lovatt and the flowers by Gill Martin. Susan, Vicky and Linda were thanked for the refreshments. The next meeting is on 24 February in the Arts Room; new members are welcome.
