A CARDIGAN athlete has smashed the world record for a half-marathon - for runners dressed as superheroes.
Some professional athletes were left in the wake of Mike Kallenberg, who breezed past them dressed as Batman’s sidekick Robin at the Cardiff Half Marathon held on Sunday.
Mike set a new Guinness World Records time of 69 minutes and 32 seconds to smash the previous record for a half-marathon dressed as a superhero by over six minutes.
Mike took on the challenge with his friend Carwyn Jones - who took to the roads dressed as Batman - to raise money for their friend and fellow athlete Rob Budgen who was injured in a parachuting accident.
Carwyn also beat the previous world record, finishing in 70 minutes and 40 seconds, but for once Batman had to take a back seat to the exploits of Robin.
Mike said the dynamic duo had plenty of support from spectators and fellow runners during the event.
“If I’m honest Carwyn definitely had the bad deal having to wear the Batman outfit,” he said.
“It was great running together, although Batman is definitely the more popular character, and great that both of us got inside the world record.”
