A REMEMBRANCE service was held at St Peter’s Parish Church, Machynlleth, to commemorate 100 years since the Battle of the Somme (1916-2016), and to remember the heroes who fought and died in the First World War’s bloodiest battle.

The service was conducted by Canon Rev Martin Riley and Canon Rev Kathleen Rogers.
Ninety-year-old ex-Fusilier, Bruce McCay and Stephen Doyle, chairman of the Machynlleth Branch of the Royal British Legion, were amongst those who laid wreaths at the town’s war memorial.
