A famous Barmouth statue was damaged when Storm Dennis hit Wales at the weekend.

The Maoi Maoi head, also known as Dum Dum, appeared on Barmouth beach in 2010 and has become a landmark for the town.

A spokesperson for Barmouth Publicity Association said: “The Maoi man is a much loved iconic landmark on Barmouth beach. He has weathered greatly over the years but it is really sad to see that he has deteriorated even more with storm Dennis and lost his nose.”

And the storm brought more chaos to rail travellers. The Cambrian Coast Line between Dovey Junction and Pwllheli, already been damaged by Storm Ciara, had been due to reopen on Monday, but Storm Dennis delayed repair work and the line remained closed until Tuesday night. The line between Llandudno and Blaenau Ffestiniog was also affected by the Storm Ciara and is being investigated for further damage post Storm Dennis.

Network Rail say this line will remain closed for approximately four weeks.

Transport for Wales’ customer delivery director, Bethan Jelfs said: “There continues to be significant damage to the rail network and limited replacement road transport available, and it’s inevitable that some services will be subject to disruption which will result in delays and cancellations.

“Some roads are also subject to delays too as a result of flooding and related damage, and journeys may take significantly longer than is usual on many routes.”
