GWYNEDD Council is considering “significantly increasing” the cost of parking at one of its flagship beaches in a bid to curtail overnight campers.
Last week, the Cambrian News reported that human excrement in the sand dunes, perpetually blocked public toilets and dozens of campervans staying overnight in the public car park at Black Rock Sands beach, Morfa Bychan, has angered local residents.
Responding to the concerns, the council has announced it is considering a number of proposals to prevent campers from abusing the car park at the beach and its facilities.
“We are aware that a number of motorhomes and campervans have recently been parking overnight on the beach at Morfa Bychan,” said a Gwynedd Council official.
“Our beach staff actively advise those entering on to the beach that they should not park on the beach overnight and that such activity is not permitted.
“However, given that owners of motorhomes and campervans fail to comply with the requirements, and remain parked on the beach overnight, the council will be taking action and considering the options available in order to ensure that vehicles comply with the requirements do not remain on the beach at Morfa Bychan overnight.
“Additional measures being considered include significantly increasing beach access charges for motorhomes and campervans and amending the beach bylaws to include the prohibition of remaining on the beach in a motor vehicle overnight.”
