AN ACCLAIMED Ffestiniog beatboxer will be lining up at the same festival as some of the UK’s favourite bands.

North Wales community music collective, CEG, with the support of Gwynedd Council, will be showcasing talent from Snowdonia at the bilingual ‘The Woodcutter’s Lodge’ Stage at the biggest North Wales arts and music festival - Festival Number 6 in Portmeirion, from 8 to 10 September.

Among the acts is Blaenau Ffestiniog’s Mr Phormula who will be performing in the same festival as chart-topping artists such as Bloc Party, Flaming Lips and Rag’n’Bone Man.

The move is a big step for CEG, who have been working hard on a voluntary basis to represent the wide-range of music being created in north-west Wales over the past two years.

This opportunity will see the local artists sharing the ‘Lost in the Woods’ stage with three other stages representing music from Wales, BBC Gorwelion/Horizons, Nyth Gwydir and Swn, with CEG specifically showcasing young talent and independent artists from Gwynedd and north Wales.

A CEG spokesperson said: “From 12-8pm each day, acts will range from the newest and rawest young talent from Gwynedd just starting on their musical journey, coming through CEG’s Yn Y Golau Project, and grasping at this opportunity with both hands, to acts that have seen increasing success in 2017, such as former Catfish and The Bottlemen member Billy Bibby & the Wry Smiles; SERA, who played live on BBC Radio 2 and will be headlining the North American festival of Wales in New York, just a week before the festival.

“They will range from authentic singer-songwriters such as Llandudno’s Courteous Thief and Prestatyn’s Ap Cooper to Caernarfon folk troubadours Paul Bodwyn Green, spoken word with world champion Blaenau Ffestiniog beatboxer Mr Phormula, and not one but two Poet Laureate’s Martin Daws (Bethesda) and Sophie McKeand (Wrexham), to Gypsy-jazz from Llanfairfechan’s The Bortowski Swing and popular Anglesey band Calfari.”See this week's north editions for the full story, in shops and online on Thursday
