A WOMAN who recently lost her grandfather to Alzheimer’s is calling on the people of Aberystwyth to help raise money to combat the disease.
Jenn Jones, who is organising the town’s third Memory Walk in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society, spoke to the Cambrian News last year about the “heartbreaking” experience of watching her 89-year-old grandfather, Tom Roberts, suffer the effects of the disease.
Sadly, Tom died just before Christmas, and Jenn, who is office manager of BMW Car Club GB at the Glanyrafon Industrial Estate, said she is more determined than ever to put an end to Alzhemier’s, which she described as a “dreadful” disease.
Jenn, 26, said: “After we lost my Grandpa just before Christmas, I was determined to do everything I could to raise money and awareness of just how dreadful this illness is.
“Raising funds for the Alzheimer’s Society is a vital way of supporting people living with this condition, and I hope that our contribution will help fund research into better treatments.
“I’m also a keen walker in whatever the weather, and would love to see us come together for a common cause. I would encourage you all to put a couple of hours’ time aside to join me for this lovely event – the more the merrier.”
The Memory Walk will take place at 11.30am on Sunday, 4 September, at Aberystwyth Promenade, where participants will begin a four-mile walk around the town.
To join Jenn in her fight against dementia, can contact her on Facebook via the Aberystwyth Memory Walk page, or by e-mail: [email protected].
The walk is expected to start at 11.30am from the bandstand. To donate, go to www.justgiving.com/fundraising/MW16jennjones.
