A team led by teenage Aberaeron wheelchair-user Bethany Francis is set to climb Snowdon on Saturday.

Bethany’s team, Bethany’s Angels, are taking on the challenging ascent, known as the Snowdon Push, to raise funds for Back Up, a national charity that supports people affected by spinal cord injury.

The 16-year-old sustained a spinal cord injury in 2003 in a road accident, when she was just three months old.

She will use a specially-adapted wheelchair to climb to Snowdon’s peak, with the support of a team of family and friends, including her parents, Dawn and Ray.

They will push together to reach the 3,560-foot summit of Wales’ highest peak.

Speaking about the challenge, Dawn said: “Bethany and I have talked about doing ‘The Push’ for a few years.

“This year, Bethany turned to me and said she really wanted to give it a go.

“Back Up has given her the confidence to do this challenge and so many things.

“We can’t wait to do it, and we have such an amazing and supportive team taking part with us.

“For me, the highlight will be to see my daughter’s face when she reaches the top!"
