Plaid Cymru says it wants to create a ‘National Park of the Sea’ in Cardigan Bay as part of its environmental commitments if elected.
Elin Jones, Plaid Cymru’s Senedd Candidate for Ceredigion, has outlined her party’s commitment to improving the natural environment and building recovery possible habitats, including the sea in Cardigan Bay.
Plaid Cymru says a Welsh Government led by them would introduce a Nature Act to set a statutory duty and targets to restore biodiversity on land, in the air, in rivers, and in the sea.
The party says it would also improve and extend Wales’ marine protected areas and we will investigate the creation of a National Park of the Sea in Cardigan Bay and the Celtic Sea as well as investing in protecting wildlife sites and use new advances in digital technology to measure and counter deforestation and habitat loss.
Miss Jones, said: “In many respects, we are at a crisis point in the fight to protect wildlife and the environment. Plaid Cymru is committed to securing that wildlife in Wales can survive and thrive.
“We will create a Nature Act will set clear targets to restore biodiversity on land, in the air, in rivers, and in the sea.
“There is such a rich diversity of wildlife in Cardigan Bay, and so one of the most exciting policies a Plaid Cymru will bring forward is the creation of a National Park of the sea.
“Importantly, we need the next Welsh Government to work with all invested parties in order to achieve these environmental goals. Our approach will involve all stakeholders and be mindful of sustainability.
"Environmental campaigners and farmers and fishers, for example, have a lot in common.
"These parties should not be pitted against each other as they have in recent years.”
