The paintings of Ceredigion artist Wynne Melville Jones have been included in the summer exhibition at Oriel Plas Glyn-y-Weddw in Llanbedrog.

Wynne, who works from his home in Llanfihangel Genau’r Glyn has been invited to submit six paintings for display at the exhibition at the renowned gallery near Pwllheli.

“I’m delighted and it’s a big break for me to have my work displayed for the first time in Glyn-y-Weddw in north Wales with such well-known and distinguished artists and it’s an opportunity to reach a new audience, said Wynne.

“The gallery is a unique cultural haven and attracts over 100,000 visitors annually.

“A lot of my paintings are inspired by iconic and well known Welsh cultural places of interest, many in west Wales, but, I have produced paintings of other places of interest in the four corners of Wales from Anglesey to Monmouthshire.

“Oriel Plas Glyn-y-Weddw is a stunning arts centre with a strong Welsh ethos and is an ideal venue to show my paintings of Wales.”

The exhibition is open until October and admission is free.

A former art student, Wynne Melville Jones returned to painting in 2011 after a gap of 40 years.

He has produced over 300 paintings during this period and most of his works portray places of interest to the artist in Wales.

Some of his paintings have travelled far from Wales, his picture of the isolated chapel of Soar y Mynydd is in the art collection of former US President Jimmy Carter and his painting of the Elvis Rock at Eisteddfa Gurig is in Graceland, Tennessee.

Only last week his oil painting of Cors Caron Tregaron was shipped to an art collector in Austria.

His bilingual book Darluniau o Gymru/Paintings of Wales, was published recently by Y Lolfa.
