Beicwyr Llyn Bikers 10th annual fundraising ride from Pwllheli was a roaring success again.

In total, 115 bikes set off from Pwllheli on Sunday morning to raise money so teenager Lewis Walker, who has cerebral palsy, can buy a tricycle to enjoy his independence.

Over the years, the group has raised £46,000 and they hope this year’s ride, which is the biggest yet, will help them break the £50,000 mark.

Chairperson of Beicwyr Llyn Bikers, Eifion Roberts, said: “It was a fantastic day. Great weather and over 100 bikes.

“We raised £1,000 on the day alone but we won’t know what the grand total is yet.

“I want to thank everyone who took part in the race and the marshalls, including Lewis, who helped out on the day.

“His sister, Charlotte also joined us on the ride and people were donating and waving at us along the route.

“We are hopeful we’ve broken the £50,000 barrier this year.”

Speaking about why they chose to help Lewis, Eifion added: “We wanted to raise money this year for a local good cause.

“Lewis could do with an adult size tricycle to get around about on his own and it would give him a sense of independence.

“So we are trying this year to help him do this. If we are fortunate enough to be able to do this and if there is any money over, we would like to put this towards getting him a beach/sea tricycle so he could join the other members of his family on the beach and even on the water.”

The ride took bikers on a route through Penygroes, Llanberis, Capel Curig to Betws y Coed and then back to Pwllheli via Blaenau Ffestiniog, covering over 100 miles.

A charity auction was also held following the ride.
