Yesterday as I was crossing the road from St Anne’s Church to Neuadd Goffa park in Southgate, Aberystwyth, I was stopped in my tracks in the middle of the road as 13 motorbikes came towards me form Penparcau Road and Llanbadarn.
As I looked at them I wondered if any of them were Hell’s Angels who visited Borth and Ynyslas on bank holidays in the 1970s. I was stationed as a dog handler in Carmarthen and we were detailed to keep an eye on them every summer bank holiday and rewarded with a day in lieu.
They have for years driven to Aberystwyth and parked their bikes opposite the bandstand sometimes there must be about 100 of them. The council does not charge them for parking as they do for motorists in North Road and Harbour car parks.

Aber indie press founder becomes the oldest-ever nominee for UK Trailblazer awardAberystwyth Rotary Club placed in front of Marine Terrace a ‘wishing well’, with donations forwarded to Water Aid.
If the bikers are made aware of this, I like to think that they would pay – the equivalent of what Ceredigion County Council expect motorists to pay at North Road and Harbour car park - to Clwb Rotary Aberystwyth to forward to Water Aid.
The wishing well is probably about 30 yards from where the bikers have been allocated on the prom in front of the bandstand.
