A LLYN motorcycle club has clocked up dozens of miles and thousands of pounds for a children’s hospice.

Beicwyr Llyn Bikers Motorbike Club held its ninth annual fundraising day on Sunday, 22 April in aid of Ty Gobaith Children’s Hospice.

The bikers have in the last eight years raised a staggering £43,000 for good causes and organisers have already confirmed over hundreds of pounds have already been collected with thousands more expected.

This year the riders headed to Snowdonia Parc Inn, Waunfawr and Llanrug from Pwllheli, after setting off at 9.30am.

Eifion Roberts, chair of the group, was delighted with how the “rather damp” run unfolded.

He said: “We have all types of motorbikes and all types of people from various backgrounds, ageing from seven years old to 70 years young.

“There are usually regular ride-outs and weekly rides on a Sunday starting from Pwllheli and going all over the north-west. All with the enjoyment of motorcycling as a common bond.

“We have members from all over Gwynedd and have friends from all over the UK.

“We started from a rather damp Y Maes in Pwllheli on Sunday morning but everyone there brightened up the day with their wonderfully bright bikes and their teddy bears.

“We raised over £600 on the day but the final amount will not be known until all out donation forms, tins and our online auction closes. We hope to be able to donate what we raised to Ty Gobaith usually around the July mark.

“Thanks please to The Snowdonia Parc Inn in Waunfawr for helping with the lunch stop and to The Venue in Pwllheli for hosting our end stop.

“We were kindly sponsored by Bangor Cash Register Company Ltd as our main sponsor this year.

“Our lead rider was Paul Stevenson and the sweep rider for 2018 was Tim Rice. There were over 90 bikes out on the day.”

Mr Roberts hoped to raise a similar amount as last year’s bike ride.

“We managed to raise £5,000 for Blood Bikes North West Wales Section last year,” he stated.

“Each year we hope to raise as much as we can for the chosen good cause and add a little to our amazing running total over the last eight years.

“It also helps us achieve what we set out to do nine years ago, which was to show that motorcyclists are not all bad and to raise good money for good causes. People need to know that we are all brothers, sisters, fathers, mothers etc.”
