Our coastal waters are denied lifeguards because of insufficient resources (Liz Saville Roberts, quoted in the Cambrian News, 6 August), and yet the Chancellor can find £500 million to subsidise restaurant diners, when millions struggle to put food on the table.

While our families innocently face treacherous tides, the government spends £10 billion on a private, centralised test and trace system, bypassing a national network of local health authorities, staffed by people trained in disease detection and familiar with the local population.

Local test and trace systems that have been begging and pleading to be utilised for many weeks, but have been ignored, just like the EU procurement schemes for medical protection equipment.

The latter was ignored because of Brexit point-scoring.
