LIFE, it is said, begins at 40, and that old adage certainly applies to the National Wool Museum in Drefach Felindre, which celebrated four decades as a leading west Wales attraction.
The milestone was marked by a day of celebrations at the woollen mill, which boasts a rich history. The anniversary party drew visitors, the workforce, locals, organisations and dignitaries.
From a fashion show showcasing the best in 1960s designer wear, to the restoration of historic machinery such as the spinning mule, the recent years have certainly been eventful.
“The main purpose of today is to give us an opportunity to gather together to celebrate the success of the museum, the good work that goes on here and an opportunity to reflect and look to the future,” said museum manager Ann Whittall.
“And above all, perhaps, to say thank you. Thank you to all who work here, who volunteer here, who support the museum and who, quite simply, visit the museum.”
Over the years the museum has embedded itself in the life and community of the Teifi Valley.
Taking part in the celebrations were the volunteer groups that are a fundamental part of its daily life, the Knitting Club, The Dye Garden group, Carmarthenshire Spinners and Ceredigion Spinners, Weavers and Dyers, Mid Teifi Textile Hooking Group, along with Jack Taylor who volunteers at the museum with WorkFit Wales: Down Syndrome Association.
