A VIGIL in support of the Black Lives Matter movement will take place in Cardigan tomorrow (Saturday).
Following events in Aberystwyth and Machynlleth on Thursday evening, which both drew crowds of people, an event will take place in Cardigan tomorrow (Saturday) morning.
Organisers are asking people to to walk from their homes to meet at the junction beneath the castle, which leads onto Cardigan Bridge, whilst maintaining social distance, from 11.30am.
There will then be eight minutes of silence.
In a post on Facebook, organisers say: “With placards and banners. Show solidarity for the BLM protests across the World. Recognise our privilege. Let us not be silent.
“Walk from your homes Saturday morning to social distance at 11:30am at the junction beneath the Castle onto the Bridge in Cardigan.
“Once we arrive we hold eight minutes silence and then disperse.
“Safety is paramount, exercise caution with all your activities, and respect Covid19 guidelines whilst on your daily exercise.
“Please consider wearing a mask.”
Protests have sprung up all over the world following the death of George Floyd, a black man, who died in Minneapolis, US last week, after Derek Chauvin, a white police officer, pressed his knee to Floyd’s neck for over eight minutes while he was handcuffed face down in the street.
Black Lives Matter was founded in 2013 and aims to eradicate white supremacy and build local power to intervene in violence inflicted on Black communities by the state and vigilantes.
