A MACMILLAN support co-or-dinator is present at the library on Friday between 2pm and 4pm. On Monday, between 10am and 1pm, a Citizens’ Advice Bureau representative is present.

Fireworks

BLAENAU Bendigedig will be hoping for favourable weather as they are organising tonight’s fire-work display, which will be held at Cae Pipes.They are appealing for more stewards on the night and any do-nations will be gratefully received because they are in the process of arranging the switching on of the town’s Christmas Lights on 3 De-cember and the various activities on that night.

IT WAS said at a meeting of the Chamber of Commerce and Tourism that if there are enough volunteers, Antur Stiniog is willing to put on a first aid course free of charge.Also, Adam Coward of Worldpay has been giving advice on money issues since the cash machine at the NatWest Bank has been closed. He answered queries on the use of bank cards and thier costs. Christine Rhisiart from Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor was also present giving an update on the business development support they can give in topics such as health and safety, apprenticeships and more.She is a business development adviser and she also talked about the Worldhost Customer Service Training.Both speakers were thanked by the chair Clare Britton.

lTHE COUNCIL has permitted a planning application to place 11 new storage silos at Rehau Plastics, Tanygrisiau, and there has been some development on the council website with the domain name cyngortrefffestiniog.cymru having been registered.

Camera club

FOOD was the subject of this year’s Golden Eagle Trophy com-petition. 70 entries were received and adju-dicator Andrew Kime placed Iona O’Neill first and second in the print section with Ian O’Neill in third place. In the projected images sec-tion, Ian was placed first with Iona second and Evie Roberts third.Iona was awarded the trophy.ParkingCLLR Mandy Williams-Davies has informed the local Chamber of Commerce and Tourism chair Clare Britton that signage would soon be installed to clarify the sta-tus of the car park located behind Ty Gorsaf as it is cheaper on certain times in the day.Christmas lightsLOCAL schools are to make lanterns for the night’s parade on 3 December and Blaenau Bendigedig who are organizing the event are providing the lights which will be installed in them.Also there will be the usual fancy dress competition for the Snow Queen and Jack Frost and other competitions will be held during the evening.New shopIT WAS mentioned at a meeting of the Chamber of Commerce that a new shop was due to open on the High Street and that a variety of charities would benefit from the sales of the shop, which many will remember as Siop Dan Roberts.EventsIT HAS been announced that the Classic Car Rally is keen to come to Blaenau on either 30 or 31 of next July. Members of the Chamber of Commerce and Tourism are keen to pursue the proposal to stage the said rally.In June, date to be confirmed, a vintage tractor rally of around 200 entries will be coming to town having started from and returning to Dolgellau.

Cycling magazine

THERE has been contact with Cycling World followed by a discus-sion by the chair of the Chamber of Commerce and Tourism, Clare Britton, with the magazine.It was agreed by chamber mem-bers that an advertisement be put within the suggested editorial that would include the cycling facilities that are based in the town.

Sunday bus service

CONWAY Council are to finance the Sunday bus service from Llandudno, which previously only came to Dolwyddelen because Gwynedd Council withdrew its funding from Dolwyddelen to Blaenau.There will be three buses on the route leaving Blaenau at noon, 2.40pm and 5.30pm. A return bus is to leave Llandudno on 1.20pm and 4pm. These buses will be running in December.

Archaeology society

THE SOCIETY held its first talk of the winter at the Ganolfan Day Centre.The subject of the talk was Plas Tirion, Llanrwst.Covering the renovation work still being carried out whilst her family lives there, Sophie Scharer outlined the history of the house dating back to the 1500s and the methods of construction used.The renovation work included the gutting of the interior rooms one-by-one, exposing things from window frames left in sealed windows, blocked up doorways, original doors and plaster frescos over fireplaces.The method of reconstruction matches as close as possible that used by the original builders including the lime-wash finish to the exterior, now visible from the main road.Society chairman Bill Jones of-fered Sophie the members and audience’s thanks.Talks are held bimonthly, but due to the onset of Christmas, the society has replaced the December date with a talk on 19 November at the same venue, entitled Round Houses by Jane Kenny of Gwynedd Archaeological Trust.
