HAVING lost 6-2 at Penmaenmawr Sports where their scorers were Julian Jeffrey and Gary Hughes, the Blaenau Amateurs are away again this Saturday, this time at Greenfield.The reserves drew 3-3 at home to Llanrwst thanks to three goals from Keiron Ellis.They entertain Colwyn Bay Reserves this Saturday. Bro Ffestiniog XV were without a game on Saturday, but are back in league action with an away match at Wexham this Saturday.

Advice

NO APPOINTMENTS are needed to talk to a representative of the Citizens Advice Bureau who will be at the library between 10am and 1pm on Mondays. At present no Macmillan Support co-ordinator is available at their weekly slots there, but if anyone needs any relevant information on this issue they can call in at the library or call 01766 830415 and a member of the staff will pass on any queries.

THE BLAENAU darts team in the Gwynedd Super League are not having the best of results so far and their recent home match played at the RWF Club against the Llanrwst-based Conwy Valley Warriors ended in an 8-0 defeat.Moelwyn Male ChoirAFTER their short break, the Moelwyn Male Choir are to resume their concerts at a Betws y Coed Hotel this Friday evening.

Maenofferen Gallery

THE EXHIBITION at the gallery for the next six weeks will be by artist Ray Murphy under the heading of Seas and Mountains.Admission to the gallery is free during the library’s opening hours.

Trains

THE TRAINS are back in service for the first time since 27 December after severe flooding caused damage to around 100 locations on the Conwy Valley railway line between Blaenau Ffestiniog and Llandudno Junction.The news has been welcomed by regular train users, though a bus service has been laid on to transport passengers whilst the repair work was carried out.

Awards

JUST a week after it was announced that band Swnami, which includes Gerwyn Murray from Glanywern, will be at this year’s Eisteddfod Pavilion in August, the band has also come out on top of the public vote in the Welsh language music scene’s annual awards, Gwobrau’r Selar, for the best in song, album, artwork and band. Another local singer, Ywain Gwynedd, was also among the winners.He scooped prizes for his Sebona Fi music video and as the best solo artist for the second year running.

Recycling centre

NEWS that the recycling centre at Rhiwbryfdir will not be closed as part of Gwynedd Council’s cuts to save money has been widely welcomed as residents feel that the site is so important for the area.

Post Office

AFTER much speculation, it has now been revealed that the Post Office counter services will cease at the High Street Post Office later this year on a date to be confirmed.These services will then be available at Eurospar, The Square during the store’s opening hours. It is hoped that the current staff will also transfer to the new site should they wish to do so.

Ysgol Tanygrisiau

A REPORT has been given following a meeting of the board of governors that a major concern for parents are cars speeding through the village which makes it uncomfortable for adults and children when walking to the school. The town council will send an e-mail to Gwynedd Council on the matter and a meet-ing has also been arranged with the police regarding this issue

Plaque

IT IS hoped that the plaque for Rawson Square will be completed soon and the town council has made arrangements for installing it as soon as it is ready.

Gwynedd Challenge

A LOCAL meeting will take place at Ysgol y Moelwyn next Tuesday evening between 6pm and 8pm regarding the Gwynedd Challenge This follows the decision of Gwynedd Council regarding their proposed cuts in lo-cal spending, which will be announced on 3 March.

Skatepark

FOLLOWING a meeting with Sgt Iwan Jones, the town council has been told that the police are keen to collaborate over the skatepark with an application for a grant aid towards the costs of installing a youth shelter at the site to be made shortly. Further funds are available for youth services, but much of this has already been allocated.
