Alzheimer’s donation
DONATIONS of £990.27 were received in memory of Pauline Richards of Gellilydan, which included donations from the Bryn Arms charity night and the Christmas bingo raffle, and which were forwarded to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Sports
BLAENAU Amateurs FC were beaten at Greenfield and the Reserves’ home match against Colwyn Bay was postponed.This Saturday the first team are home to Halkyn and the Reserves have no match. Bro Ffestiniog XV kept their WRU Division title hopes alive with a 13-6 win at Wrexham but remain in 2nd place behind Col-wyn Bay. The Bowling Club’s AGM will be held at the Park pavilion on Tuesday, 22 March, at 7 pm and members area asked to make every effort to attend.

THE Maenofferen Gallery hosts an exhibition under the heading of Sea and Mountain by artist Ray Murphy and admission is free during the library’s opening hours.
Camera club
THE Camera Club’s black and white print competition turned out to be a very close contest, with Rory Trappe, John Gareth Roberts and John Powell Jones each awarded maximum points by the judge Tom Dodd, with Rory gaining the overall prize. Members visited the Llanrwst Club for the annual inter-club competition with Terry Mills from the Deudraeth Club the adjudicator. Blaenau won both the print and projected images sections. Rain was the subject of the latest club competition, with club member Juliet Dover as the adjudicator. She gave a detailed and construc-tive adjudication and placed John Powell Jones in first place, with Rory Trappe and Iona O’Neill tied second and Iona was also placed third.
Shelter
TOWN councillor Bedwyr Gwilym made an application for a bus shelter to be placed at Bethania, but following a site meeting with Iolo Tegid, information was given that there is no suitable location for a bus shelter in this area. Also Mr Tegid was approached with a proposal to have double yellow lines at various points in the town to ease traffic congestion and the problems with drivers not giving way to oncoming traffic. The council has agreed to the recommendations regarding the yellow lines and the legal work will now commence to proceed with this.
Advice
REPRESENTATIVE of the Citizens’ Advice Bureau will be at the library on Mondays between 10am and 1pm. The Macmillan support co-ordinator will not be present on Fridays, but anyone can pass their concerns on to the library staff, who will pass them on.
Planning
A PLANNING application for change of use of ground floor from a shop to a self-contained flat at 32 Church Street has been objected to by the council.

Signs
THE North and Mid Wales Trunk Road Agency has been seeking the views of the town council on an application to have signage of the approaches of the town. The meeting was disappointed that the application had been made in English only with errors when spelling local names. The council has already made a similar application with the costs likely to be around £2,000 for each sign because of the legal costs for placing them on trunk roads. In the meantime Cllr Kevin Baldwin is to liaise with the person who made the application.
Choirs
RHIANNEDD y Moelwyn Ladies’ Choir conducted by Sylvia Ann Jones with accompanist Wenna Jones took part in a ladies’ choir competition in Manchester, where they were unplaced but were pleased with their performance in the event, which had a total of 14 choirs taking part. On Friday evening, Sylvia Jones was conducting the Moelwyn Male Choir with accompanist Wenna Francis Jones at a concert at Betws y Coed. Gareth Griffiths was the compère.

Joint meeting
THE town council chamber will be the venue for a long-awaited joint meeting of the council, the Dolwyddelen Council, the Ffestiniog Memorial Hospital Defence Committee and the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, which is to take place on Tuesday, 15 March at 10am. Present on behalf of the health board will be Dr P Higson, its chair; Geoff Lang, strategic direc-tor and Ffion Johnston, area direc-tor west.
