Race
THE Ras yr Iaith (Race for Language) which was a national fun run, which went through 25 towns in three days this month to raise money for the consciousness of the Welsh language visited the town last Wednesday afternoon.
Gallery
THE Maenofferen Gallery hosts an exhibition of the work of the local Camera Club members until the 23 July and admission to the gallery is free during the library’s opening hours.
Planning
THE council has refused the re-submission of a previously refused planning application for the change of use of the ground floor shop at 32 Church Street to a self-contained flat and alterations to the front of the building.
Moelwyn Choir
IT was a busy weekend for the Moelwyn Choir with two engagements at Betws y Coed the first being at the Royal Oak Hotel on Friday evening and then at the Church there on Sunday evening. Conducting the choir was Sylvia Ann Jones with Wenna Francis Jones the accompanist and the soloist on the Friday evening was Awel Jones who was joined by her sister Lowri and Tomos Heddwyn Griffiths on Sunday evening for a variety of solos, duets. The three came together for their final contribution and compering both concerts was Gareth Griffiths. The choir has accepted an invitation to give another concert at the Church on 14 August.
Advice
A REPRESENTATIVE of the Citizens Advice Bureau will be at the library on Mondays between 10am and 1pm ready to assist with any relevant questions one might have and no appointments are needed to be present.
Offer
GWYNEDD Council has offered the freehold of several recreational areas to the town council. The town council is responsible for the maintenance of several of these already but they do not hold the freehold.In accepting the information, the council will discuss the proposal further at an Amenities Sub Committee.
Bowls
THE Blaenau team wa beaten 8-4 at Min y Don, Old Colwyn in a North Wales League A match with Elwyn V and Stephen Jones, Aled Owen and Mike Burgoyne their winners and this Saturday they will be home to Beaumaris. Two of their members, Dafydd Hughes and R Elwyn Jones, both lost narrowly in the Gwynedd Veterans side’s match against the Wrexham side at Johnstown. Their next match will be against Clwyd next month.
Park
THE youth shelter is in place at the Skate Park and work is proceeding to fix the ramps. No reply has been received from the Angry Scones Racing Team in response from the council to get a copy of their public liability insurance and as a result the council is to write to them explaining that they have not complied with the terms of their lease and is to bring the lease to an end. According to the terms of their lease it is expected they will reinstate the land to its original state.
Fountain
FOR several months the slate fountain at Diffwys Square has not been functioning and the latest is that Cerrig Cyf has offered the council a price to clean it.
Bwrlwm Bro
THIS Saturday, 16 July, the Dref Werdd is organizing their Bwrlwm Bro at the local park with something on to suit all ages and it all gets under way at noon till 6pm. The event is also kindly supported by various organisations and businesses.
Patagonia
WITH Elsi Jones who was one of the Patagonia Scholarship judges leaving the area the council is to ask Ceinwen Humphreys if she would be willing to take over the post. Also, Tecwyn Vaughan Jones is to be contacted regarding arrangements for the competition and the council is to look into getting sponsors for the competition.
Football
BLAENAU Amateurs Reserve side who will be playing in the Gwynedd League this coming season will warm up with four friendly matches at Harlech on the 23 July, home to Dolgellau on 4 August and away at Barmouth on the 6 August and at Penmachno on the 9 August.
Signs
HAVING received a request for a new sign at Barlwyd Terrace the council is to inform the person who made the request explaining that the current financial situation does not allow the installation of a new sign there. The council is responsible for the renewal of street signs but not the installation of an initial sign.and in this case the cost would be around £500 because the original has been placed on a house. The council is to ask Gwynedd Council to put up a road sign at Lower Cwmbowydd Road.

Symudwyd i’r Stablau wedyn i wrando ar sgwrs gan Siân Griffiths, o Barc Cenedlaethol Eryri, ar y gwaith enfawr sy’n cael ei wneud ar hyn o bryd ar Yr Ysgwrn ac adeiladau eraill ar y fferm oedd yn gartref i’r bardd Hedd Wyn. A thra mae’r gwaith yma yn parhau yn y Traws mae arddangosfa o’r gwaith a grëwyd gan blant Ysgol Hedd Wyn dan gyfarwyddyd Luned Rhys Parry i’w weld ym Mhlas Tanybwlch. Gobeithir cwblhau yr holl waith adnewyddu a chael y Gadair Ddu yn ôl yn ei lle erbyn dathlu canmlwyddiant marw’r bardd yng Ngorffennaf 2017. Diolch i staff y gegin a Siân am noson werth chweil. Bydd cyfarfod cyntaf y tymor newydd ar 26 Medi.
Clwb Camera
THE Camera Club‘s exhibition is currently on display at Blaenau Ffestiniog Library until 23 July. The exhibition represents the members varied photographic interests such as portraits, landscapes, natural history, travel, black and white etc The club would like to thank the library staff for their support during the exhibition, and also Gwynedd Council for providing a venue to showcase the work. The exhibition would not have been possible if it wasn’t for the generous donation of the frames from Rhiannon and Alwyn Brethyn Blaenau/Oriel Moelwyn.
