THE clocks in Blaenau Ffestiniog will turn back 70 years this weekend to recreate war-time Wales and celebrate the town’s heritage and its role in the second world war.

The town’s plan to turn the clock back to 1940s Britain has “caught the imagination of hundreds of people from miles around”, according to one of the event’s organiser.

This Sunday, Blaenau Ffestiniog will play host to a variety of attractions including a classic car show, a 40s style sing-and-dance celebration and a series of historical talks by local writers.

The Meirionnydd town played a vital role in World War Two, with hundreds of refugee children heading to north Wales to escape bombing raids. The nearby Manod Slate Caverns also played host to much of Britain’s priceless artwork due to its safe subterranean nature and consistent temperature.

According to Gaile Louise Weir, one of the main organisers of the day, which will run from 10am-5pm on Sunday, there will be something to suit all tastes.

If you would like to be part of the day the person to contact is Gaile at the Bridge Cafe in Blaenau, by phone on 0795 7621845 or by email to [email protected]
