Madam,

In the late 1900s Ceredigion County Council failed to close Bodlondeb and Tregerddan residential care homes.

In around 2006 the council moved approximately 20 residents to Hafan y Waun, Waunfawr, leaving two wings unoccupied a Bodlondeb. The space was later to be occupied by ‘Reablement and Care Repair’ which occupied 12 rooms. Two other rooms were later occupied as offices and two as store rooms.

Approximately six years ago two wings were given a facelift, converting four rooms into two. The other two rooms had adjoining wet rooms.

The other wing on the first floor was not given a facelift and rooms were occupied by residents who made up the 26 residents.

In the consultation Ceredigion County Council informs us that the maximum number Ceredigion County Council is able to provide for is 26!

At present there are under 10 residents occupying 59 bedrooms. Of these rooms at least seven would accommodate two residents.

By my reckoning, this would allow the home to be occupied by 66 residents!

I have been informed that the decision as to the future has not been decided. Surely it is imperative that the Welsh Assembly, the health board and Ceredigion County Council put their heads together, to make the maximum use of Bodlondeb.

Members of the public, who have paid National Insurance, council tax and tax all their lives should, in their time of need, be supported if they need residential care and dementia care. Why close Bodlondeb?

A cabinet of eight councillors, out of 42 county councillors, will have the unenviable task of deciding the future of Bodlondeb. They are Ellen ap Gwynn, Ray Quant, Dafydd Edwards, Rhodri Evans, Catrin Hughes, Gareth Lloyd, Catrin Miles and Alun Williams.

Now is the time to protest. It is never too late. We must support those in need of care.

Yours etc,

D A Thomas, Save Bodlondeb Steering Group, Llwyn-yr-Eos, Penparcau,
