POLICE searching a mountain lake believe they have found the body of a Llan Ffestiniog man who went missing following an alleged altercation with his partner.
Mountain Rescue Teams working with North Wales Police and a Police Underwater search team recovered the body of a man, believed to be that of Nicholas Davies, on Tuesday morning.
Mr Davies, 34, was reported missing from the area on Sunday with North Wales Police admitting they had “concerns for his welfare”.
The body was found in a lake near very steep mountain terrain, adjoining the B4391 on the outskirts of Blaenau Ffestiniog.
A search was initially commenced late Monday afternoon, but had to be called off due to poor weather and failing light, the B4391 remained closed for a day and a half.
DCI Brian Kearney at Caernarfon CID said: “The man was pronounced dead at the scene and although he’s yet to be formally identified we believe it’s missing Llan Ffestiniog man Nicholas Davies.
“Mr Davies’ family have been informed.
“Our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.”
The Cambrian News understands that Mr Davies was involved in a dispute with his partner who later went to Y Pengwern Inn for help on Saturday.
The Welsh Ambulance Service confirmed that they attended the pub and that a woman was taken to Ysbyty Glan Clwyd with “non-life-threatening injuries”.
A spokesperson for North Wales Police also confirmed they had attended the scene and said there had been an “assault”.
The death is currently not being treated as suspicious and HM Coroner for North West Wales has been informed.
