HOPES of converting Dolgellau’s court buildings into a heritage centre have been given a boost after the building failed to sell at auction.

A community action group had planned to turn the former Dolgellau Magistrates Court, a grade II listed building in the heart of the town, into a centre to celebrate the area’s history and to run a local information centre.

However, the building was put up for auction in Manchester on Tuesday with a guide price of just £70,000.

The court failed to receive any bids and now the community group is hopeful that it can push forward with plans for the heritage centre.
