BOTTLE recycling banks are to be removed from an Aberystwyth supermarket at the end of the month because of the “inconsiderate actions of a few people”.

CB Environmental, the local recycling firm which operates recycling services at Morrisons supermarket’s filling station, has announced it is to remove two bottle recycling banks at the site because of misuse by “a small minority of people”.

The news comes after the Cambrian News reported last month that people were leaving glass bottles and clothing on the floor outside the banks because they “could not be bothered” to sort them out.

CB Environmental, which also operates the recycling site at Glanyrafon Industrial Estate, said: “Following on from your previous article with regards to the inability of a small minority of people in Aberystwyth to correctly use the bottle banks that have been provided at Morrisons recycling site for over 10 years. Aber Skip Hire with the agreement of Morrisons regretfully feel that due to the time lost by both companies in keeping the site tidy they have no option but to remove both bottle banks from site with effect of 1 April 2017.”

Cllr Gareth Davies said he was “very disappointed” but added: “It is a mess down there. People are not being responsible and are leaving their rubbish all over the place.”

Cllr Davies added: “I wasn’t aware that this was going to happen.

“It is disappointing because it is probably because of the inconsiderate actions of a few people, and a number of people have to suffer because of it."
