Madam,
I must concur with the two MPs who commented on your article last week, Liz Saville Roberts and Elan Jones, regarding the constituency boundary reform. The whole episode is a complete fiasco, a waste of time and a waste of money, even though the proposals are allegedly to save money.
Will someone explain to the public how you save £60 million by cutting 50 MPs when it is proposed to increase the Upper House of unelected Lords by 200, who will be paid £300 per day just for signing in.
This would appear to the public, to be economics of the Madhouse and one wonders just how many of the 200 new Lords will come from Wales and who they will represent.
With no consultation with the Welsh Government, we must assume there us an ulterior motive, as there are no proposals to alter the Welsh Assembly boundaries, which will crisscross and overlap the Parliamentary boundaries causing complete confusion for Welsh voters, and the cuts in Wales will mean the smallest number of MPs since 1832.
We, the public, must oppose these proposals vigorously, for obvious reasons, as I believe it was Winston Churchill who said, and I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong: ”The only way to maintain a healthy government, is to maintain a healthy opposition.”
Yours etc,
George Buckley, Tywyn.
