Madam,

Bravo to the parishioners who cleaned the interior of St Winefride’s Catholic church in Queens Road, Aberystwyth (Cambrian News, 2 June), and also used it for prayer, as it should be used!

It is high time for the Catholic bishop of Menevia to abandon his claims that the church is dangerous.

The bishop agreed in 2014 to allow a parishioner to arrange a third independent survey to settle any doubts, but he has failed to provide the written permission which is necessary for this survey to take place, despite requests.

The high fence which surrounds the church should also be removed. There is no legal requirement for it (contrary to what the bishop has stated) since the buildings have not been condemned, and it was erected on the initiative of the diocese.
